RB & SB, U12 Parents
Our daughter joined the Trailfinders Girls Rugby Programme in the Summer of 2024 after being inspired and encouraged by Kate Zackary – who found time to talk to her after a PWR match – to give rugby a go.
After the first session, and directly as a result of the care, compassion and enthusiasm of the professional players coaching the session, a love of rugby was ignited in our daughter- something we couldn’t have predicted.
The girls are encouraged to be themselves, try their best and be respectful and kind to their teammates – this environment and ethos can sometimes be a welcome change from the academic environment at this age and allows the girls to flourish.
The Girls Rugby Programme also provides a safe space for the girls to explore Rugby in a professional environment with professional players – all of whom are enthusiastic, committed and so generous towards the girls, sharing both their technical expertise and real life experiences of playing rugby.
Our daughter has grown in confidence on the pitch, at school and generally. She feels empowered knowing she is part of the Rugby community and takes so much pride in it.
David, U12 Parent
My daughter first came to Trailfinders after players from the Community Team visited her school, inspiring the kids to watch the professionals in action, take part in the guard of honour, and meet the players after the matches. She was immediately hooked and signed up for midweek training, which welcomed her as a complete novice, followed by Friday night sessions with professional women players.
She started with enthusiasm but little confidence or knowledge—both of which have grown significantly over the past year. The addition of regular Sunday tournaments has further sharpened her skills and competitive spirit. She remains eager to train three times a week, and it’s been amazing to see how much her game has improved.
Monika, U14 Parent
Iga has been a part of Ealing Trailfinders Rugby Club for the past three years, attending training on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. She truly enjoys her time there, having formed wonderful friendships while excelling in rugby.
Her skills have significantly improved, particularly through Friday sessions with Kate Zackary, who is a dedicated and skilled coach. The matches are always a fantastic way to spend Sundays as a family, and we absolutely love the experience.
James & Emma, U14 Parents
Rose’s rugby experience at Trailfinders would be difficult to match anywhere else. The interactions with the professional women’s players not only serves as an inspiration to the girls youth players at Ealing, but the PWR player’s input through Friday coaching sessions has encouraged even more girls to take up the game. The impact of a players first rugby sessions being coached by players such as Kate Zackary and Tyson Beukeboom has proved very successful, and many of the girls want to continue their rugby journey further.
The addition of two international-level PWR players to the girls youth coaching team has helped to bring the players on leaps and bounds this season. As a budding scrum-half, my daughter has benefitted hugely from being coached at close quarters by Caity Mattinson this season. Additionally, as someone who takes on place-kicking duties for the u14’s, the input of Lisa Thomson and Emma Taylor has been invaluable to her progress this year.
As parents we are incredibly lucky to have professional sportswomen so willing to give of their own time to help our girls develop their rugby skills.
As great as the rugby moments are, the impact has also been seen off the pitch, as her confidence and resilience have both come on significantly. It has also been great to see all the girls grow together as a group of friends and not just team mates.
From a U14 Parent
Ava is not the most confident of girls when it comes to sports, however the weekly encouragement she receives not only from the coaching team and professional ladies have made Ava’s experience of rugby a happy and enjoyable place where she can develop and grow in a fully inclusive environment which accepts girls of all levels of ability. Ava has gone from a girl that shied away from sports to a girl who cannot wait for Wednesdays training. Thank you!
Are the sessions really free?
Yes! Our Trailfinders Girls Rugby sessions are free and weekly. Our goal is to encourage young athletes to try rugby, build their individual confidence, and make some friends along the way.
Do I need rugby experience?
No experience needed! Our sessions are focused on skill-development and building confidence as rugby players and individuals.
We highly encourage players to try different sports, with the key goal of living an active and healthy lifestyle.
Do I have to wear rugby boots?
We do ask that players wear rugby boots as the turf can become quite slippery in trainers!
What if I miss a week?
Not a problem! The sessions run weekly from August to June, with a few exceptions around the holidays.
There is no weekly commitment – we know that things come up and players have to miss.
Can I bring a friend?
Definitely – word of mouth is the best marketing we could ask for!
Our Community Department visits a number of school in the Greater Ealing area, and we promote our youth programmes to encourage active, healthy lifestyle.
